Plain slabs, planned well
Concrete Flatwork in Merrionette Park, IL
Landings, pads, strips and aprons. Graded for runoff, set on a firm base and poured on a date you can plan around.
Small Slabs. Same Checklist.
Flatwork is the working concrete of a property. A landing at the side door. A pad for the air conditioner. A strip along the garage for bins and bikes. An apron linking the drive to the alley. None of it is flashy, and all of it gets used every day. Our approach is simple and the same each time: a checklist, a date and no skipped steps. The visit starts with measurements and a look at how water crosses the spot. Then the ground. Soft topsoil out. Crushed stone in, tamped lift by lift. Forms staked with a gentle fall so rain clears the surface instead of freezing on it. Thickness is matched to what will sit on the slab, whether that is feet, a mower or a heavy unit. Reinforcement goes in where the load calls for it. Finish is usually a broom texture for grip, with control joints placed so movement stays in straight lines. In Merrionette Park, where many lots are compact and access runs through a narrow gangway, we plan the delivery and the pour sequence in advance. You know the prep day, the pour day and the day the slab is ready for use before the work begins.
On the Flatwork Checklist
Every slab, every time.
Measurements and runoff check

Old concrete removal
Broken slabs cut out and hauled off on prep day.
Firm ground
Topsoil and soft fill removed down to solid soil.
Packed stone
Stone tamped in lifts for steady support.
Graded forms
